Synthesis and applications of isotopically labelled compounds 19881989
Synthesis and applications of isotopically labelled compounds 19881989
AbstractAbstract
[en] Examples are presented which show the radioactive labelling of peptides with (35S)Met. This aminoacid is incorporated into the peptide sequence either as a N-protected active ester on the N-terminus of an appropriately protected peptide or introduced C-terminally by using an activated, protected peptide and free (35S)Met. As peptide protecting groups is proposed the reduction sensitive but HF-stable NO2Z groups. As examples are presented the preparations of (35S)Met-enkephalin and of AC(35S)Met-ANF. AbstractAbstract
[en] In 1985, J.J. Simpson interpreted a distortion in his measurement of a tritium beta-decay spectrum as evidence for a 17 keV neutrino. Such a neutrino is inconsistent with the current Standard Model and has revoltionary implications for cosmology and astrophysics. Until recently, the experimental situation has been unclear. In general, solid-state detectors confirmed the existence of the heavy neutrino, while magnetic spectrometers found no evidence for it. The past year has seen a flurry of experimental activity, including work the authors have done at Argonne National Laboratory. At the Physics Division of ANL, a search has been made for the effect of a 17 keV neutrino in the beta-decay of 35S with an apparatus incorporating a high-resolution solid-state detector and a superconducting solenoid. The experimental mixing probability, sin2θ = -0.0004±0.0008(syst.), is consistent with zero, in disagreement with other solid-state detector results. The sensitivity of this measurement to a heavy neutrino signal is confirmed by measurements with a mixed source of 35S and 14C which produces a distortion in the beta spectrum similar to that expected from the massive neutrino. Details of this experiment, and recent developments in the field, will be discussed

Tracer studies on non-protein nitrogen for ruminants III1976
Tracer studies on non-protein nitrogen for ruminants III1976
AbstractAbstract
[en] The rate of bacterial cell growth in the rumen of buffalo calves has been measured applying the isotope dilution technique by injecting labelled mixed rumen bacteria into the rumen, and expressing the specific radioactivity either per mg dry bacterial cells or per μg DAPA in whole rumen samples. The animals were fed daily about 15-20 kg chopped green maize in 12 equal amounts at 2-h intervals. There was no significant difference in the rate of production of bacteria estimated by either method. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Angular distributions of the 37Cl(p, 3He)35S reaction at 40.2 MeV bombarding energy have been measured for states in 35S up to 9.16 MeV energy excitation. These data have been analyzed with the distorted-wave Born approximation, and values of the angular momentum L transferred to several states have been deduced. A shell-model analysis of the transitions to the low-lying levels has been performed, and the new information gained about the structure of 35S is discussed
