AbstractAbstract
[en] There have been efforts since the introduction of field ion microscopy (FIM) to extend its application to various metals, alloys and semiconductors. Curiously, no FIM study of zirconium has been published even though zirconium micrographs have existed for some time. In view of the large interest in the metal a method of preparing and imaging Zr specimens in the field ion microscope is reported. (Auth.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A constant volume gas thermometer was built to calibrate the various secondary thermometers used at low temperature. This gas thermometer is placed in a cryostat where any stable temperature between 4 and 300 K may be obtained. After some words about low temperature thermometry, the gas thermometer and its auxiliary equipment are described briefly; the corrections to be applied to the results are given and the article ends with a table showing the values obtained

AbstractAbstract
[en] Applying Landau's theory we have determined the spin structure of neodymium crystal below Tc = 19.3 K for the star of the vector q1=μ1b1+μ2b2. The corresponding cross-section for magnetic scattering of polarized neutrons yields the satellites (h±q, 0, 0). Two pairs of satellites around the point (0,1,0) have lower intensities than the remaining ones

AbstractAbstract
[en] A design is described with which elastic and sufficiently uniform compression of single-crystal specimens by approximately 0.4 to 0.5% can be achieved at liquid helium temperatures. The provision of a sliding side support for the specimen, which prevents shear deformations arising in the compression process, makes it possible to achieve deformations almost an order of magnitude greater than the limiting elastic deformations possible for free specimens. AbstractAbstract
[en] Experimental results are reported which suggest that stable storage of atomic H is enhanced by the trapping reactions H + T2→ HT2 and H + HT→H2T, with the triatomic molecules decomposing at sharply-defined trigger temperatures in the range from 0.35 to 0.90 K. Thus, concentrations greater than approximately 7 x 1019 trapped H-atoms/cm3 may actually be realizable with tritium weight-fractions greater than 2.5%. (author)
