[en] The decay of 124Cs has been investigated at the ISOLDE facility and a level scheme of 124Xe is proposed. In addition to the previously known levels of the ground state and the quasi-gamma bands, the 0+ and 2+ states of the quasi-beta band have been observed at 1268.7 and 1628.3 keV respectively
[en] Collective transverse flow is preferential emission of the nucleons within, and to a particular side of reaction plane. It is quantified by the first harmonic (ν1) in the Fourier expansion of the azimuthal distribution of produced nucleons with respect to the reaction plane. The collective transverse flow was found to be very sensitive towards the equation of state and nucleon-nucleon (nn) cross-section. The effect of momentum dependent interaction (MDI) on the observable in the heavy ion collisions have been studied for many years. Nowadays, the isospin effect of MDI has attracted a lot of attention. Recently, Liu et al. considered an isospin degree of freedom in MDI to obtain isospin momentum dependent interactions (Iso-MDI). They tried to study the role of Iso-MDI on the isospin fractionation ratio and its dynamical mechanism at intermediate energies. [en] Ultra-pure iodine-123 (>99.8% radionuclide purity) has been produced by the irradiation of enriched xenon-124 (99.8%) on external beam lines of CP-42 and TR-30 cyclotrons. Typically, an incident proton energy of 24-30 MeV has resulted in a yield of 6.6 mCi/μAh at the end of processing (end of bombardment + 9h). The largest quantity of iodine-123 produced on a single run has been 12 Ci. The availability of large quantities of ultra-pure I-123 and reliable production four to five times per week has led to a vibrant radiopharmaceutical programme based on I-123. Currently, a number of pharmaceuticals have been licensed in Canada or are undergoing clinical trials in the United States. MDS Nordion has state of the art facilities such as Class 100 Isolators in Class 10,000 Clean Rooms for aseptic filling operations and has developed expertise in Ci scale labelling operations. [en] The results of a search for two neutrino mode of double K-capture of 124Xe using a large copper low-background proportional counter are presented. Data collected during 3220 hours of measurements with 58.6 g of 124Xe provides us to a new limit on the half-life of 124Xe regarding 2K-capture at the level: T1/2 ≥ 2.0 × 1021 years at a 90% confidence level.
[en] The technique used in the experiment in the search for the process of 2K2ν-capture in 124Xe using large high-pressure proportional counters is briefly described. The measurements with a xenon sample enriched to 21% (or ~57 g) of the 124Xe isotope carried out for 3340 hours yielded a zero signal. The resultant upper limit on the 124Xe half-life with respect to the 2ν-mode of the nuclear capture of two K-shell electrons amounts to T1/2>4.6 1021 yr at the 90% confidence level.
[en] The gas centrifuge technology is studied for the separation of Xe isotopes. The nature Xe is chosen as processing gas. A four-state cascade is designed to separate 124Xe to a concentration of being greater than 65% in three separation runs. 124Xe can be enriched to a concentration 99% in more separation runs using a cascade of more gas centrifuges. [en] This communication describes the lessons we have to draw after the observation of neutrinoless ββ decay on a 6σ level by the enriched 76Ge experiment in Gran Sasso, for present and future experiments (a) to fulfill the task to confirm the present result (b) to deliver additional information on the main contributions of effective neutrino mass and right-handed weak currents etc. to the 0νββ amplitude. It is pointed out that presently running and planned experiments are not sensitive enough to check the present evidence on a reasonable time scale. More important, the only way to get information on the individual contributions of m, η, λ etc to the 0νββ amplitude is to go to completely different types of experiments, e.g. mixed-mode β+EC decay experiments, such as 124Xe decay, on a 1027 y sensitivity level
