Subsurface soil gas radon changes associated with earthquakes

  • 1. Guru Nanak Dev Univ., Amritsar (India). Dept. of Physics

Description

Radon concentrations within the ground but close to the surface have been measured continuously from 1984 for earthquake prediction. During this period several radon anomalies considerably larger than meteorologically induced variations have been recorded. These anomalies were followed by an earthquake of magnitude above 3.8 occurring within 3 to 10 days, at an epicentral distance of 100 to 400 km. (author)
