Crystal growth and structures of rare earth fluorocarbonates: I. Structures of BaSm(CO3)2F and Ba3La2(CO3)5F2: revision of the corresponding huanghoite and cebaite type structures

  • 1. Universite du Maine, 72 - Le Mans (France)

Description

The structures of the huanghoite and cebaite minerals are revised by results from BaSm(CO3)2F and Ba3La2(CO3)5F2 single crystals, obtained by hydrothermal growth (T=720 deg C, P=200 MPa, t=24 h). They are respectively trigonal and monoclinic BaSm(CO3)2F is built up from SmO9F polyhedra which form infinite SmO6F layers, parallel to the (a,b) plane, between which barium atoms are inserted. In Ba3La2(CO3)5F2, double infinite chains of LaO9F polyhedra and infinite Ba3016 and Ba3O14F4 blocks, along the b axis, form infinite layers
