[en] A simple safety gland is described preventing the penetration of a radioactive medium outside the pump even after the shutdown of the pump and safeguarding proper seating of the sealing surfaces when the pump stops. The gland body houses a flange sealing ring consisting of the flange proper and a hub provided with a sealing surface. Placed between the flange and the pump body are compression springs. The hub of the flange sealing ring is provided with slots on its outer periphery. The gland body is linked with brackets to a slotted disk engaging the sealing ring slots. The sealing ring flange defines two control spaces in the body; the top control space is connected with a port to a shut-off and pressure valves. The gland body can be provided with an electromagnet which, in case of power outage immediately safeguards the closing of the gland. (J.B.)
