AbstractAbstract
[en] In the early stages of production, Canadian heavy water plants (HWP) have been plagued by foaming in the cold towers. Although this problem has been solved, there is room for improvement in tray efficiency. A sieve tray program is under way to develop techniques to design and predict the performance of HWP towers with reasonable accuracy. Foaming in H2S/H2O mixtures, tray hydraulics, tray efficiency, and gas-liquid phase boundary determination by gamma scanning are subjects under study. (E.C.B.)
