[en] The PDS microphotometer is shown to be an efficient means of producing accurate radial velocities both when measuring individual lines and when cross-correlating spectra of similar type. Photographic spectra of the double-lined spectroscopic binary α Equulei and the β Cepheid HR 6684 have been reanalysed and have yielded more plausible velocity variations than those previously found.
