[en] Presented are the results of investigations into formation kinetics and composition of a gas saturated layer as well as the influence of these factors on the VT-18 alloy properties under condition of elevated temperatures. The conclusion is made of the main reasons for the loss of plasticity in the VT-18 alloy, namely, a brittle gas saturated layer, where crack initiation takes place and a low-plastic matrix (as a result of ordering process) which permits the crack propagation into a metal
