AbstractAbstract
[en] accordance with the project for the final storage of non-reprocessed spent nuclear fuel, the waste will be encapsulated into copper canisters which will be deposited in a final repository located in rock 500 m below ground level. The canisters will be placed in vertical holes in the bottom of the tunnels, where the copper cylinders will be surrounded by blocks of highly compacted bentonite. The purpose of this report is to describe the transport of the fuel canisters from the encapsulation plant above ground level and the handling of the canisisters until they are finally placed in their depositioning holes. The design of the transport system is based upon the basic principles that a complete radiation protection shall be provided during normal operations in the tunnels and that no radioactive emission or radiation protection problems should arise in consequence of transport accidents etc. Possible accident situations have been analysed
