[en] This paper gives the results of theoretical computations of electron-ion pair production rate in the D and E regions of the ionosphere at a low latitude station due to solar radiations in the wavelength range 1-1225 A. It also gives the results of computations of ionospheric absorption using generalised magnetoionic theory appropriate to the electron density profile composed from the results of rocket (60-70 km), partial reflections (70-93 km), ionosonde (100-150 km) for conditions solar zenith angle 100 in equinoctial month of low solar activity. Several assumed N-h profiles in the height range 93-100 km were tried out until the computed total absorption and virtual height agreed reasonably with the observed absorption on 1.8, 2.2 and 2,5 MHz and the virtual heights of reflection at these frequencies. The profile finally arrived at shows an inflection at about 95 km corresponding to eletron density of 3 x 104 electrons /cm3 instead of its smooth increase from 85 to 105 km
