AbstractAbstract
[en] The surface multiphoton photoelectric effect of metals has proved to be a useful experimental method for investigations into the general laws governing multiphoton processes. A brief historical background is given. The more recent developments, namely the behaviour of the intensity dependence of the surface photoeffect at high laser intensities the multiphoton resonance in the case of metals, and the energy absorption from the laser beam by the already emitted ''free'' electrons are discussed.
