AbstractAbstract
[en] The stability of a heavy ion beam propagating through the target chamber is considered. In most schemes the beam has energies of several tens of GeV, carries currents of approximately 1,000 amps (equivalent), and is focused geometrically from an aperture of radius r/sub i/ approximately 10 cm to a target spot of r/sub f/ approximately 1 mm over a distance of L approximately 10 m. The propagation mode must thus be highly stable
