AbstractAbstract
[en] Quantitative integrated values for dinitrogen fixation may be obtained by employing 15N by labelling the plant nutrient solution whether this is the soil or an artificially prepared medium. By comparison of the dinitrogen-reducing system with a non-reducing but otherwise identical system, the principle of isotopic dilution may be applied to ascertain the amount of nitrogen in the plant deriving from the atmosphere. Various methods of calculating dinitrogen fixation based on defined isotope terminology, appropriate design of experiments to measure dinitrogen fixation, and possible applications will be discussed.
