AbstractAbstract
[en] The reviews of overall performance statistics and the innovations which have been recently made or are being planned on the SLAC 23.5 GeV linac are presented. A number of operating hours of the linac is 4700 and machine pulses equal 3x109. Four to six of e+ and e- beams are used for fixed-target physics and two permanently reserved for injection into the SPEAR storage ring. The PEGGY2 new polarized electron gun with a GaAs cathode at 77 K and with 10O W peak of circularly polarized light at 7100 A is described. The SLAC Energy Development Program (SLED) which will boost the electron energy into 30-50 GeV range is presented. It is planned to replace failed klystrons with 38 MW tubes. Upon completion of this phase of the program the energy multiplication factor would be 1.8 and repetition rate 180 pps. A brief survey of microwave developments such as new beam position monitors, a scheme to rapidly compensate for transient beam-loading, a new high-precision method to monitor pulse-to-pulse and short-term energy changes on the accelerator is given. Computer control and changes being planned for generation and transportation of e+- beams to the PEP ring are discussed
