AbstractAbstract
[en] Several of the criticisms of the vitrification of highly active wastes put forward by Professor A.E. Ringwood, who advocates the use of synthetic rock, are examined. Amongst the issues discussed are leaching rate, stability of the media to radiation, and range of waste composition that can be accommodated. It is concluded that technically synthetic rock offers little advantages over the present proposals for vitrification. (U.K.)
