AbstractAbstract
[en] The federal government, through its specialised Agency, the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, is responsible for the safeguarding and final disposal of all radioactive waste. The construction and operation of federal waste management facilities are subjected to an approval procedure which includes a requirement that the public be informed of the project, and local authorities consulted. Approval will be granted if protection of the life and health of the population and of property assured. In addition, in the case of an underground repository, detached plans must be submitted for the approval of the mining authorities. (NEA)
