AbstractAbstract
[en] Of the many different container configurations now being utilized for interim storage of low-level TRU waste materials none is readily acceptable for direct shipment and isolation in the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP). The proliferation of these waste containers is a direct result of efforts by the waste generators to package their unique TRU wastes into containers that meet DOE Manual Chapter 0511 twenty-year retrievability requirements under the differing environmental conditions of onsite storage. TRU wastes that continue to be packaged in non-standard containers will require repackaging to meet shipping regulations and WIPP acceptance criteria before storage in terminal isolation. Specifications for a standard container were developed. A prototype container has been built
