AbstractAbstract
[en] The situation of demands and supplies of radioisotopes is described along with the associated problems. (1) The current status of medical radioisotopes and the subjects of study: Recent progress in nuclear medicine with RIs for diagnosis and treatment is remarkable. (2) Problems in medical radioisotopes viewed pharmaceutically. In view of exposure dose and radiation detection, short half-life radionuclides of several hundred KeV gamma-ray energy without β-ray emission are desirable. Positron nuclides produced with cyclotrons are now used in association with positron cameras. (3) The situation of RI production with reactors and problems. In Japan, radioisotopes are produced in Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute. (4) Supplies of radioisotopes for industries and research purposes and problems. These include unsealed RIs, and standard radiation sources and standard solutions. (5) Supplies of labeled compounds and problems. These are mainly organic labeled ones with 3H and 14C. (6) Supplies of luminous paint and problems. This is mostly used for watches. (7) Problems in overall system. (Mori, K
