[en] The objective of this work is to assess the expected chemical compatibility of various coolant, structural and breeder combinations. Several different candidate structural materials are rated as to their compatibility with different candidate coolants. It is noted that the use of solid breeders such as Li₇Pb₂ or Li₂O demands that they be clad if they are to be used with either water or hitech salt. Tritium inventories have been calculated for different coolant--breeder combinations. Molten salt extraction from a liquid lithium breeder should result in concentrations of 1 wppM or in total blanket inventories of 0.1 to 1.0 kg.
