AbstractAbstract
[en] Present techniques for measuring sound velocity in liquid metals have been limited by transducers that cannot survive in extreme temperatures for the long periods these techniques require. The report describes work on a dynamic noncontacting method intended to measure sound velocity in liquid uranium. Measurements were successful with liquid lead, but not with liquid uranium. Flat slab specimens were found to give much better response than cylindrical shapes
