[en] Resonances have been found in the elastic scattering of alpha particles from 40Ca over the energy range 6 to 18 MeV. These resonances are characterized by strong backward angle enhancement in yield which cannot be matched by the optical model, whereas the forward angle part of the angular distributions is readily so described. The position of these resonances is consistent with the interpretation that these are quasi-molecular states in the α40-Ca system, and match satisfactorily the normalized predictions of the resonating group method, ascribing them therefore as the L=0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and 9 members of a mixed-parity rotational band
