AbstractAbstract
[en] The photoionization mass spectrum of 238UF6 was obtained. At 600 A = 20.66 eV, the relative ionic abundances were as follows: UF6+, 1.4; UF5+, 100; UF+, 17; UF3+, approx. 0.7; UF2+, very weak; UF+, very weak; U+, essentially zero. The adiabatic ionization potential for UF6 was 13.897 +- 0.005 eV. The production of UF5+ begins at approx. 887 A = 13.98 eV, at which energy the UF6+ partial cross section abruptly declines and then levels off. This behavior suggests the vague possibility of an isotope effect. The UF4+ signal begins at approx. 725 A = 17.10 eV, at which energy the UF5+ signal reaches a plateau value. The UF5+ photoionization yield curve displays some autoionization structure from its threshold to approx. 750 A
