AbstractAbstract
[en] In ICRP Publications 22 and 26, cost benefit analysis was recommended as the ideal mechanism for determining the acceptability of a proposal involving exposure of people to radiation and the principles of justification and optimisation were expressed in mathematical notation. These principles of optimisation of protection were applied and the risks to the public evaluated in transport accidents with dangerous materials. The cost-effective results obtained in this study were similar to those obtained for safety systems in PWR reactors. (UK)
