AbstractAbstract
[en] The electron scavenging properties of the molybdate ion in aqueous solutions have been investigated using the positron life-time spectroscopy (LS) and the Doppler broadening of annihilation radiation lineshape (DBARL) technique. Molybdate belongs to the class of solutes that lead to partial inhibition of Ps formation by the capture of not fully solvated electrons. The inhibition constant amounts to 11.8 M-1. By comparison with other Ps partial inhibitors, this value appears much higher than expected from the ksub((e)sub(aq)sup(-)+sub(MoOsub(4)sup(2-))) rate constant, on basis of the Hunt relation, in agreement with previous results from pulse radiolysis experiments.
