AbstractAbstract
[en] This paper relates the results of experiments dealing with irradiation of adults of Acanthoscelides obtectus (Say, 1831). The insects were irradiated with doses of 0 (control), 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 20 krad gamma radiation of a 60Co source. After irradiation, the adults were kept for observation on beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) var. Jalo, in a controlled environmen t chamber at 30 +- 10C and 70 +- 5% relative humidity. Continuous weighing at weekly intervals was done 22 times, showing, by weight loss in percent, that the sterilizing dose for adults was 10,65 krad. It could also be observed that losses of less than 0,5% occured at 9 krad. For a possible employment on commercial scale, the ideal radiation dose for bean desinfestation would be 10 krad, after which no weight loss occurrence. (Author)

Insetos adultos de Acanthoscelides obtectus (Say) foram irradiados com doses de 0, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, e 20 krad de radiacao gama, provenientes de um irradiador de Cobalto-60. Posteriormente, foram mantidos para observacao, em substrato constituido de feijao (Phaseolus vulgaris) cv. Jalo, em camara climatizada, a 30 +- 10C e umidade relativa de 70 +- 5%. Pesagens subsequentes, durante 22 semanas, indicaram, pela percentagem de peso residual de feijao, que a dose esterilizante para Acanthoscelides obtectus (Say) foi de 10,65 krad, constatando-se perdas inferiores a 0,5% com 9 krad. Recomenda-se assim, para uma possivel utilizacao em escala comercial, a dose de 10 krad para desinfestacao de feijao, para a qual praticamente inexistem perdas de peso. (Autor)Original Title
