AbstractAbstract
[en] U(V) ions have been prepared in acidic perchlorate solutions by the reaction of U(VI) with Eu(II). The absorption spectra of the U(V) in the solutions have been measured. The rate of disproportionation was observed at various acid concentrations, ionic strengths and temperatures. The values of ΔH sup(not equal) and ΔS sup(not equal) for the reaction are found to be 8.68 +- 0.46 kcal.mol-1 and -17.93 +- 1.55 cal.deg-1.mol-1, and reaction mechanisms consistent with the observed results are discussed.
