AbstractAbstract
[en] The discrete ordinates method has been used to calculate a proper shield to be placed around the target of the Gothenburg Pulsed Neutron Generator (PUNGGO) to minimize the dose rate outside the laboratory building. Simple calculations for slab of different materials were performed to study the effectiveness of different shielding materials. Final calculations were performed for a spherical geometry approximating the whole experimental hall to include the effect of neutron scattering from the walls and from the air. An ANISN code with a 22-group coupled neutron-gamma cross section library has been used throughout this work. The adequacy of the ANISN code for dose rate calculation has also been tested through some simple benchmark calculations. (Auth.)
