AbstractAbstract
[en] Dispersion relations and sum rules are derived for the complex rotatory power of an arbitrary linear (nonmagnetic) isotropic medium showing natural optical activity. Both previously known dispersion relations and sum rules as well as new ones are obtained. It is shown that the Rosenfeld-Condon dispersion formula is inconsistent with the expected asymptotic behavior at high frequencies. A new dispersion formula based on quantum eletro-dynamics removes this inconsistency; however, it still requires modification in the low-frequency limit. (Author)

Derivam-se relacoes de dispersao e regras de soma para a potencia rotatoria complexa de um meio isotropico linear arbitrario (nao-magnetico) mostrando atividade otica natural. Obtem-se tanto as relacoes de dispersao e regras de soma previamente conhecidas quanto as novas. Mostra-se que a formula da dispersao de Rosenfeld-Condon e inconsistente com o comportamento assintotico esperado para altas frequencias. Uma nova formula de dispersao baseada na eletrodinamica quantica remove essa inconsistencia; entretanto, ela ainda requer modificacao no limite de baixa-frequencia. (L.C.)Primary Subject
