AbstractAbstract
[en] Nuclear weapons tests have deposited upon the Saskatoon area considerable amounts of the fission product 137Cs. The average concentration for the area was found to be 67,3 nCi/m2 and its distribuition upon the area as a whole is quite uniform. The above figure is high enough to allow the evaluation of deviations from it, caused by erosion and deposition processes; 137Cs losses as high as 34% were observed in knolls of cultivated fields, whereas an increase of 95% over the average for the region was found in depressions. Such results favour the use of fallout 137Cs as a tracer in the study of physical processes in the soil of the Saskatoon region. (Author)

Os testes de armas nucleares depositaram na area de Saskatoon, Sask., uma quantidade consideravel do produto de fissao 137Cs. A concentracao media atual deste radionuclideo e de 67,3 nCi/m2 e ele distribui-se uniformemente sobre a area. Tal concentracao e suficientemente alta para que desvios deste valor medio causados por processos de deposicao ou erosao sejam significativamente avaliados. Perdas de ate 34% na concentracao de 137Cs foram observadas nas partes mais elevadas de campos cultivados, enquanto que, nas depressoes, acrescimos de ate 95% foram verificados. Tais resultados indicam a viabilidade do uso do 137Cs decorrente do 'fallout' radioativo como tracador no estudo dos processos fisicos no solo da regiao de Saskatoon. (Autor)Original Title
