AbstractAbstract
[en] The feasibility of using the fission track registration technique in the determination of the uranium and thorium content in shales from the middle Amazon river region is studied. The above technique permits, through the determination of the uranium concentration, to establish a correlation between the uranium content and the organic matter present in the shale. In establishing the ratio between the fission tracks due to 238U and 235U, the sample was contaminated with natural uranium and analized, so that no modifications on the analysis conditions might change or distort the results. The experimental results were satisfactory and they may contribute to the study of the industrial exploration of these energy sources as well as to the analysis of problems related to environmental control. Estudou-se a viabilidade da aplicacao da tecnica do registro de tracos de fragmentos de fissao na determinacao da concentracao de uranio e torio no xisto da regiao do medio Amazonas. A referida tecnica, atraves da determinacao da concentracao de uranio, permite estabelecer uma correlacao entre esta e a materia organica, presentes no xisto. Ao ser estabelecida a relacao entre tracos do 238U e 235U, utilizou-se a propria amostra contaminada com uranio natural, evitando-se a introducao de modificacoes nas condicoes de analise que pudessem alterar ou distorcer os resultados. Os resultados experimentais encontrados foram satisfatorios, podendo contribuir para o estudo de uma possivel exploracao industrial destas fontes de energia e para analise de problemas relacionados com o controle ambiental.
