AbstractAbstract
[en] Water movement was studied in horizontal infiltration experiments using laboratory columns of air-dry and homogeneous soil to obtain a simple and suitable equation for soil-water diffusivity. Many water content profiles for each one of the ten soil columns utilized were obtained through gamma-ray attenuation technique using a 137Cs source. During the measurement of a particular water content profile, the soil column was held in the same position in order to measure changes in time and so to reduce the errors in water content determination. The Weibull equation utilized was excellent in fitting water content profiles experimental data. The use of an analytical function for ν, the Boltzmann variable, according to Weibull model, allowed to obtain a simple equation for soil water diffusivity. Comparisons among the equation here obtained for diffusivity and others solutions found in literature were made, and the unsuitability of a simple exponential variation of diffusivity with water content for the full range of the latter was shown. The necessity of admitting the time dependency for diffusivity was confirmed and also the possibility fixing that dependency on a well known value extended to generalized soil water infiltration studies was found. Finally, it was shown that the soil water diffusivity function given by the equation here proposed can be obtained just by the analysis of the wetting front advance as a function of time. (Author)

Estudou-se o movimento da agua no solo em laboratorio atraves de experimentos de infiltracao horizontal em colunas de solo homogeneo e seco ao ar, para obter uma equacao simples e adequada para a difusividade da agua no solo. Obtiveram-se varios perfis de umidade para cada coluna utilizada, atraves do metodo da atenuacao da radiacao gama usando-se fonte de 137Cs. Durante as operacoes, manteve-se constante, a posicao da coluna, com o objetivo de medir variacoes da umidade no tempo e diminuir os erros nos valores calculados da umidade. Utilizou-se o modelo da equacao de Weibull no ajuste dos perfis de umidade, sendo excelente a concordancia do modelo com os dados experimentais. O uso de uma funcao analitica para ν, a variavel de Boltzmann, conforme o modelo de Weibull, permitiu a obtencao de uma equacao simples para a difusividade da agua no solo. Fizeram-se comparacoes entre a solucao obtida para a difusividade e as encontradas na literatura, tendo sido mostrada a inadequacao de uma variacao exponencial simples da difusividade com a umidade quando levado em conta todo o intervalo de variacao desta ultima. Os resultados tambem confirmaram a necessidade de se admitir a dependencia do tempo para a difusividade, havendo a possibilidade de se fixar um valor conhecido para essa dependencia em estudos genericos de infiltracao da agua no solo. Com a equacao obtida, mostrou-se que a difusividade pode ser conhecida simplesmente atraves da analise do avanco da frente de molhamento em funcao do tempo. (Autor)Original Title
