[en] The DOE program focuses on three areas each of which requires more research before the many CO²-related questions can be answered. These areas include the global carbon cycle, climate effects, and vegetation effects. Additional information is needed to understand the sources and sinks of CO². Research efforts include an attempt to estimate regional and global changes in temperature and precipitation. Increased atmospheric CO² may be a potential benefit to vegetation and crops because it is an essential element required for plant growth. Eight separate papers are included
