AbstractAbstract
[en] This paper gives an overview of nuclear safety development in Sweden during the last decade. The perspective is that of ASEA-ATOM, the domestic BWR vendor. A brief outline is given of the nuclear debate, political maneuvering, and official investigations before the national referendum on nuclear power held in 1980. The referendum was a direct consequence of TMI, and the outcome implies retention of the current program of twelve Swedish reactors with a dim future for any further expansion. The main part of the paper deals with safety criteria applied to the BWRs in Sweden and Finland and the safety characteristics of these plants. A description of design features and accounts of safety analyses and reviews are given, including risk studies conducted within the framework of governmental commissions
