AbstractAbstract
[en] The hydrochlorination of a mixture of uranium fission products with selective sublimation of 99Mo is essential to the design. Irradiated uranium oxides are mixed with a 5 to 10-fold weight excess of ammonium chloride and are heated in a reaction vessel to 270 to 340 degC at the simultaneous passage of an inert carrier gas containing hydrogen chloride. 99Mo is trapped either outside the heated zone on inert material or directly in the heated zone on a selective sorbent. The advantage of this method is that up to 95 wt.% of the 99Mo is obtained from the irradiated material. (M.D.)
