AbstractAbstract
[en] An overview is given of three heater tests at Avery Island, Louisiana. The design considerations and operating conditions are described relative to the stated objective of each of the tests, and the data obtained to date are presented. An analysis of the results will be presented in the future. Measurements of temperature, heat flux, and displacement are presented. These three categories of measured responses were the most reliable and also are readily comparable with calculated responses. Determinations of induced stress in the salt and backfill pressure measurements in the heater borehole were not considered successful. Results are not presented for these measurements. The information presented is important for understanding the response of salt to an imposed heat source
