AbstractAbstract
[en] A noble-gas scintillator detector for heavy ions is described. The results of tests performed on a 170 MeV Ar beam show excellent separation between the signals from Ar ions elastically scattered on a Au target at 900 and background from secondary electrons and X-rays. The detector has been operated with pure Xe gas at 250 hPa. The energy resolution obtained during the test was about 10%, and the time resolution was found to be better than 3 ns. (orig.)
