AbstractAbstract
[en] Immediately following the discovery of the neutron, the concept of a highly compact neutron star began to evolve. The history of the development of this concept and its consideration in theories of stellar evolution are discussed. The discovery of pulsars, and some of the subsequent observational data on neutron stars are then described. The present day model of this endstate of stellar evolution is outlined. (UK)
