[en] Excitation of the 5P0 and 5D0 states of the iron atom by electron impact is investigated by the method of crossed atomic and electron beams. The absolute values of the excitation cross sections are measured for 74Fe I lines located in the spectral region from 2000 to 6000 A for an energy of exciting electrons of 50 eV. Optical excitation functions are recorded for 36 lines
