AbstractAbstract
[en] In an interview of Lennart Fogelstroem, Managing Director of OKG AB about the reasons for the recent major power failure in Sweden, Fogelstroem points out that the Swedish power system is inherently unstable due to the major production sources being located in the north of the country (hydroelectric generation) but that nuclear plant in the south does tend to help balance the system now. He points out that when the fault occurred only one of the eight nuclear plants available stayed on line and it was not possible to bring the others in soon enough. He says in conclusion that together with ASEA Atom they must ensure that more advanced equipment is introduced to deal with network faults. (H.J.P.)
