AbstractAbstract
[en] Differential-neutron-emission cross sections of 232Th, 233U, 235U, 238U, 239Pu and 240Pu are measured from approx. 1.0 to 3.5 MeV with sufficient angle and magnitude detail to provide angle-integrated emission cross sections to < approx. 3% accuracies. Emitted-neutron resolutions are quantitatively defined and vary from approx. 0.1 to 0.35 MeV. The experimental results are corrected for fission-neutron contributions to obtain pseudo-elastic scattering cross sections which, together with independently-measured neutron total cross sections, define the non-elastic cross sections to within specified energy resolutions. The latter results imply inelastic-neutron-scattering cross sections which are compared with quantities deduced from prominent evaluations. Good general agreement is noted for 232Th, 233U, 235U, and 238U inelastic-scattering cross sections. The agreement is poor in the case of 240Pu and very poor for 239Pu. The implications of the present results on the integral behavior of 239Pu critical assemblies and FBR energy systems are discussed. (Auth.)
