AbstractAbstract
[en] Programs and schedules for TVO's nuclear waste management have been presented in the report on the basis of the studies made in 1979-1982. The bases for the activities are: integrity, known technology, safety, correct timing, and flexibility. As the basis for the spent fuel management is considered preparedness for accomplishing all measures in Finland, when simultaneously possibilities to make use of foreign services are being cleared up. Own schedules have been presented for each waste management sector and finally, summarizing schedules have been drawn up. According to the plans activies can be located at two places. The other place is Olkiluoto, where all interim storages and final disposal facilities of reactor waste are located. The operation there continues until the year 2055. The other place is the place for the final disposal of spent nuclear fuel, where also the encapsulation plant is located. The operation period there is approx. from the year 2000 to 2060. It has also been stated in the report that the presented schedules form only a basic alternative. The operation program gives a possibility for even large changes as the waste management needs are better known and technology has developed
