AbstractAbstract
[en] An anharmonic vibrational mode of a molecule, driven by an intense infrared laser and coupled to a quasi-continuum of background modes, is found to undergo chaotic oscillations. This chaos leads to predominantly fluence-dependent rather than intensity-dependent multiple-photon absorption, as is found experimentally. The loss of coherence is associated with the decay of temporal correlation of background-mode oscillations
