AbstractAbstract
[en] One of the primary analytical techniques for the determination of radionuclides is high-resolution gamma-ray spectroscopy. The system used by the Analytical Chemistry Laboratory of Bendix Field Engineering Corporation (Bendix) in support of the U.S. Department of Energy Grand Junction Area Office consists of four Ge(Li) detectors operated under computer control. Quantifying the nuclides of interest is accomplished by comparing the intensities of gamma-ray photopeaks in the samples with those in certified standards after correcting for self-absorption. The success of this method depends on how well the equipment can be calibrated. This document presents a general description of the calibration techniques used by Bendix for their high-resolution gamma-ray spectroscopy system. Complete descriptions of operating procedures and software documentation are contained in separate manuals. 11 references, 5 figures, 8 tables
