AbstractAbstract
[en] Environmental surveillance activities performed by the Pacific Northwest Laboratory for the Department of Energy's Hanford Site for 1983 are discussed in this report. Samples of environmental media were collected in support of the Hanford Environmental Surveillance Program to determine radionuclide concentrations in the Hanford environs. Radiological impacts in terms of radiation dose equivalents as a result of Hanford Operations are also discussed. Radionuclide concentrations in air, Columbia River water, ground water, foodstuffs, wildlife, soils, and vegetation are presented. Measurements were also made of external penetrating radiation and nonradiological water quality. An assessment of potential radiological impacts attributable to 1983 operations at Hanford indicated that radiation doses to the public were well below all applicable regulatory limits, and significantly less than doses potentially received from other common sources of radiation. 35 references, 16 figures, 59 tables
