AbstractAbstract
[en] Recently pion production cross section was measured in heavy ion collisions at low and moderate bombarding energies. The measurements show the systematic behavior of the excitation function, the energy and angular distribution, and the target mass dependence of the cross section. A statistical hypothesis is made about the reaction mechanism. The compound nucleus model describes the data on symmetric systems remarkably well. The extension to asymmetric systems is reported here
