AbstractAbstract
[en] Over the past few years our collaboration and others have shown that it is possible to study the very low cross-section channels from compound nuclear reactions by measuring the gamma radiation in coincidence with the neutron multiplicity. We have designed and constructed a new, very large (>14 liters) five-segment, liquid scintillator detector array for fast neutrons. The detector consists of five independent pie-shaped segments configured as a thin compact annulus. The segments are physically as well as optically isolated from each other, allowing each segment to be recharged separately in the event that the scintillator becomes contaminated. Each of the five segments is coupled to an Amperex XP2041 photomultiplier tube which has been specially selected for low gain
