[en] A detailed series of studies were carried out to demonstrate the structural integrity of the stainless steel main coolant piping for Westinghouse pressurized water reactors. The purpose of the work was to demonstrate that the primary coolant piping was extremely unlikely to fail due to any of the conditions for which it was designed, and that therefore the design postulate that this pipe fail instantaneously is unrealistic and unnecessary.
