[en] The management of radioactive wastes in Australia is reviewed. Technical criteria for regulated user-disposal, shallow ground disposal and long term storage are examined. Options for ensuring adequate regional and national access to waste repositories are discussed. The Committee recommends that the code of practice for user-disposal be finalised, a national program be initiated to identify sites suitable for shallow ground burial and the Commonwealth proceed to investigate the development of facilities for interim and long term storage
