AbstractAbstract
[en] Measurements of neutral transverse energy spectra in p-p, d-d and α-α interactions at the CERN ISR are presented. The source of transverse energy is the emission of relatively low P/sub T/ particles distributed uniformly. Analysis of the αα data in terms of multiple nucleon-nucleon collisions is most convenient when Gamma distributions are used to represent the spectral shapes. This distribution bears a strong relationship to the Negative Binomial Distribution which describes multiplicity distributions in pp and p anti p interactions over the full available energy range. Extensive analysis of the data is presented in terms of Nuclear Models. However, the best fit to the pp and αα data is a single Gamma distribution scaled by the mean value. This property is also known as KNO scaling. 15 refs., 2 figs
